About Vet

PLEASE READ BEFORE SCHEDULING

Prescribing via Telemedicine is ONLY available in:

✔ California ✔ Florida (The states I can prescribe in)

Do NOT schedule an appointment if you are specifically seeking a prescription and are not located in California or Florida.

Veterinary Practice Acts are state-specific and regulate what qualifies as a valid Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR). A VCPR is legally required in order to prescribe medications.

At this time, not all states allow a virtual visit to establish a VCPR for prescribing purposes. California and Florida are the only states where I may legally prescribe medications following a virtual visit.

In all other states in which I am licensed — including Oregon and North Carolina — prescribing medication requires an in-person physical exam within the past 12 months. If your pet has not been examined in person by me within that timeframe, I cannot legally prescribe medications.

If you are located outside of California or Florida, or would like to confirm your state’s telemedicine rules, please refer to the link below. You may need to schedule with a veterinarian licensed in your state if virtual prescribing is permitted:

Prescribing Limitations

Virtual visits do not replace routine in-person veterinary care. It remains important to maintain regular wellness exams and state-required vaccinations to ensure your pet stays healthy long-term.

Telemedicine is well-suited for concerns such as: • Ear infections • Skin infections • Post-operative recovery questions • Determining whether a concern is an emergency • Certain routine medications (e.g., flea prevention)

Long-term and chronic medications should be managed by your primary local veterinarian. Prescribing is always at the doctor’s discretion, and telemedicine has inherent limitations.

I do not prescribe the following via telemedicine: • Controlled substances (including seizure medications and certain cough medications) • Medications requiring routine blood monitoring (e.g., thyroid medications, NSAIDs, heart medication, insulin, etc) • Heartworm prevention without a recent test (annual testing is required through your local veterinarian) • Medications for undiagnosed or systemic conditions requiring diagnostic testing • Long term anxiety or behavior medications (discussion is welcome, but prescribing and management must be done by your primary veterinarian). I will prescribe for short-term or situational concerns (fireworks, storms, boarding).

Pet Presence Requirement

To establish a VCPR for prescribing purposes, your pet must be physically present during the virtual visit and I need to examine the area of concern. If you are unable to have your pet present, please schedule your appointment for a time when this is possible. This is a legal requirement with no exceptions.
