Hello, I’m Dr. Leah Knode, VMD, a proud University of Pennsylvania graduate with over 30 years of veterinary experience. As the founder and practice owner of House Paws In-Home Veterinary Care since 1994, and House Paws Animal Hospital in Lovettsville. I deliver gentle, low-stress care either in your home, barn, or farm, or at our full-service veterinary hospital—no stressful trips or long waits when possible. My expertise spans both emergency medicine and wellness medicine, including surgery, preventive care, and complex case management. I excel at seeing the big picture, communicating clearly with owners, and providing practical, tailored guidance with clear treatment plans that prioritize the animal’s comfort and your peace of mind. I care for a wide range of animals: dogs and cats of all ages and breeds, rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, rats, and other small mammals. I also have extensive experience with farm animals—including chickens, turkeys, sheep, goats, and cattle—which is a rare and valuable service in our region. Owners turn to me for poultry wellness, flock health, small ruminant care, cattle consultations, and more when few other options are available. My services include wellness exams, vaccinations, dental care, nutrition and supplement guidance, senior pet and farm animal mobility support, behavioral advice, and gentle end-of-life care. I’m passionate about minimizing anxiety and stress for both animals and their families, whether it’s a nervous cat in the living room, a goat needing routine care, or a dog receiving hands-on treatment at the hospital.
