About Vet

Hi, I’m Dr. Flatt. I earned my veterinary degree from St. George’s University and completed my clinical rotations at Mississippi State University. My primary professional interests include emergency and critical care, theriogenology, and soft tissue surgery.

I am licensed to practice veterinary medicine in three countries and have worked extensively with New Zealand working dogs, an experience that shaped my practical, efficiency-focused approach to medicine.

The dog featured in my photo is my late, three-legged Rottweiler, Ruger, who battled osteosarcoma. Through him, I gained firsthand insight into the emotional weight of medical decision-making, quality-of-life considerations, and the realities pet owners face during difficult times. As a veterinarian, I prioritize candid communication and collaborative planning. I believe in creating realistic, compassionate treatment plans that respect both the pet’s wellbeing and the owner’s resources—without unnecessary expense or unrealistic “heroics.”

Outside of veterinary medicine, I can often be found on a theatre stage, a sports field, on a plane, or curled up with a good book. I love exploring the world and using those experiences to connect with others through creativity, humor, and storytelling.
