I currently practice small animal medicine in Wisconsin. At my own practice, and in many other practices around the country, we are short staffed and unable to fit in all of the animals that need to be seen. I feel like telemedicine bridges this gap and will help many people and pets while they wait to see their regular vet. Some problems require a more hands on physical exam to be able to help pets, but many problems can be helped by talking with the owner and/or viewing pictures sent by owner. Pet owners should understand I will only prescribe medications to pets if I feel there will be minimal risk to the pet and of benefit. Nothing beats an in person examine, but I understand there are many factors that do not make this possible for all pet owners. I will not prescribe any medication for pets outside of Wisconsin.
