About Vet

Hello! My name is Kate and I am very excited to be able to help you and your pet family!

I am both internship and residency trained and have worked in emergency/specialty hospitals for the past 13 years.

Please note if you live in WA state and I have not done a physical exam on your pet by law I cannot prescribe medications. In the state of WA it is illegal for a veterinarian to prescribe medications without doing an in person physical exam on a pet within the past year - This is specifically why my rates are cheaper than most on this platform

A little about me: I received my medical degree from Michigan State University in 2011. After earning my DVM I completed a year-long medical/surgical internship in the DC area and then followed that up with a year emergency and critical care residency outside Boston. I have been a practicing emergency care, inpatient critical care, and urgent care veterinarian in the Seattle area since 2013. My experience has exclusively been in 24/7 emergency and specialty hospitals.

Having been in emergency and critical care medicine my entire career, this is where my knowledge base is strongest. I excel at the triage process, knowing when pets need to be seen on an urgent or emergent basis and will be VERY helpful at guiding you when to seek prompt emergency care, when things can wait to see your primary care veterinarian, or if they just need monitoring at home.

Having completed both an internship and residency, as well as working in specialty hospitals my entire career I also have a great knowledge base for conditions in neurology, internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, dermatology and surgical conditions. As an emergency doctor it is my job to take in patients to the hospital and then guide them to the right specialty department, so I can help guide you through that process virtually as well.

Personally, I split my time between the mountains of the North Cascades/Methow Valley and working as a relief ER doctor in Seattle at a large specialty hospital. I have an adorable chocolate lab named Wyatt at home.

When I'm not working I will be outdoors in the mountains hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, or just enjoying the peace of nature.

I am very excited to be able to help you and your pet family!

Disclaimers and important things to note with regard to telemedicine platforms

I love helping pets and their people, but legally, it is against the law for veterinarians to prescribe medications unless they have physically examined the pet in the state of WASHINGTON, this is called having a VCPR (veterinary-client-patient relationship). THIS IS A GOOD THING! Most of the time you really want a vet to examine your pet and take vital parameters before giving any medications. It can be very dangerous not to have a full physical exam prior to starting a medication.

FOR ANY CLIENTS WHO LIVE LOCALLY IN THE METHOW VALLEY (Mazama, Winthrop, Twisp, Carlton) we can arrange for an in person consultation/exam if needed for medications. I do have my own LLC set up for veterinary practice.

For pets in IDAHO, I am allowed to Rx medications without an in-person consultation and exam as the laws that exist in Idaho with regard to the VCPR are different than Washington. However, this will be a case by case basis as as I've stated I'm a firm believer in pets having exams prior to starting medications for the safety of your pet, but there are instances where it might be okay in the short term prior to you seeing a vet in person.

*** PLEASE BE ADVISED for pets in Idaho where I can provide medications without an in-person exam: With MANY medications, bloodwork and actual physical examinations may be a pre-requisite before prescribing in order to ensure the ultimate safety for your pet - If you are needing a prescription refill or any medication at all, I may not be able to do this unless bloodwork or other tests/exams performed first. This will be on a case by case basis and is there for the protection/well-being of your family pet! ***

*** Please also be advised, once we discuss your pet's health, in some circumstances I will recommend you go DIRECTLY to a veterinarian if I am concerned. Although telemedicine is very convenient and great for some situations, it also has it's limitations in terms of being able to physically treat your animal. Telemedicine platforms are here more as a professional opinion and can provide you with guidance in questionable situations with your pet. We are here to ease your worries, even if it's as simple as letting you know if a problem can wait until the next day when you can see your regular vet or if It's something serious enough that needs a trip to the ER**

Dr. Wescott was competent, compassionate, and clear in her communication. The appointment was well paced and did not at all feel rushed. She offered sound and clear guidance. Without a doubt, she is the best vet we have encountered in this app thus far.

Dr. Westcott was fantastic. She took the time to really understand what was going on with Wrigley. She asked great questions and was super compassionate with what we were dealing with. Her recommendations were spot on and helped us through a difficult situation. I highly recommend Dr. Westcott.
