Cat health symptoms

Pacing and circling is uncommonly observed in cats, though occasional pacing and circling are normal behaviors.

Pale gums are identified when the normal light pink color of the gum tissues turn pale or white, indicating a serious underlying condition.

Panting is not a common symptom in cats. Rapid, open-mouthed breathing, which is normal in dogs, might be a symptom of a severe, potentially fatal, illness in cats. There are many possible causes for panting in cats, some of them more dangerous than others.

Paralysis is the complete loss of the ability to move or feel a part of the body. It can affect any or all limbs of the body, the face, or the vocal cords. It may be acute or chronic.

Persistent erection, known as priapism, is when a male cat’s penis remains erect for at least 1 hour in the absence of sexual stimulation.

Persistent heat is a rare symptom in cats where the hormonal regulation of the reproductive cycle is disrupted, causing the cat to be in estrus (heat) for an abnormally prolonged period. 

Pica is a behavioral symptom where cats compulsively eat non-food items. It is an uncommon symptom in cats. This abnormal behavior can indicate an underlying medical issue such as infection or nutritional deficiency, or may be due to stress.

Coat condition can be a useful indicator of overall health in cats.
