Hello!
My name is Dr. Elena and I look forward to meeting you and your pet! I exclusively work with exotic companion mammals (rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, hedgehogs, chinchillas, sugar gliders etc.), reptiles, and birds. I work with these species on a daily basis and do not treat cats and dogs. Originally trained in Sydney, Australia I have been working towards an exotics companion mammal specialty under the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP).
I understand that exotic animal medicine is not like cat and dog medicine.... many of these conditions are insidious and can be scary. Our animals are the very best at hiding any kind of illness so even the smallest bit of information can change everything for your animals treatment. Early intervention is key, however, it is becoming more and more difficult to find specialty trained veterinarians - let alone an appointment. I hope to be able to help in any way I can to close this gap. Whether it be to treat primarily, chat about general care, or advise until an in-person consult can be found.
I currently live with a hamster (Chad) and rabbit (Francis). Both refuse to be anyones "pet" which is why they are mostly, if not entirely, free roam! Crazy I know!
