About Vet

Dr. Abel Gonzalez graduated from UC Davis in 2009 after his family immigrated from Mexico when he was just five years old. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Abel, or "Dr. G" as he is also known, is passionate about the importance of preventive care, educating pet owners, and fostering strong, trusting relationships with his clients.

Since the third grade, Dr. Abel has wanted to become a veterinarian. He believes that it is crucial to educate people about the emotional and financial responsibilities that come with caring for another life. As a pet parent himself, he understands the great commitment required to maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle for both pet and family. Dr. Abel believes that by working in partnership, we can minimize uncertainties, increase life expectancy, and strengthen the human-animal bond.

Preventive care is key to ensuring good health for pets. Regular check-ups, establishing baselines, and noting trends can help detect hidden illnesses, leading to early intervention and better prognoses. As medical technology continues to improve, pet life expectancy is on the rise. By educating ourselves on how to stay healthy, we can focus on the many benefits that come with having a pet. Proper diet, good behavior, parasite prevention, dental care, and immunizations are all essential lifelong recommendations.

Dr. Abel is both a cat dad and a dog dad. He owns Daisy and Zelda, litter mates named after Nintendo characters, and Luke, a black lab who was once his patient and is now a beloved member of his family. Having grown up with Chihuahuas, Doxies, and Great Danes, Dr. Abel is passionate about healthy living and is devoted to helping pets and their owners thrive.

Throughout his career, Dr. Abel has worked at several esteemed pet hospitals, including Banfield Pet Hospital, WellHaven Pet Health, Hannah the Pet Society, Modern Animal, and Fuzzy. He finds working in telemedicine to be incredibly rewarding, as it allows him to advocate for pets, pet parents, and the teams at brick-and-mortar hospitals. By educating parents on preventive care and first aid at home, Dr. Abel can help provide relief and support for families. He believes that a well-educated family leads to better compliance, success, and satisfaction for all involved. Ultimately, the goal is to focus on enjoying the relationship with your pet without any medical surprises.

The impact of COVID-19 on all medical professions, including veterinary medicine, has been significant. Now more than ever, Dr. Abel emphasizes the importance of mutual support, mental health, and work-life balance for the sustainability of the profession.
