About Vet

Hi, my name is Melissa. I am one of those classical veterinarians who wanted this career since I was young (11 to be exact). I had always grown up with a variety of animals ranging from cats, dogs, rats, snakes, iguanas, rabbits, fish, birds, etc. My family had a knack for rescuing animals from the streets and from people who could no longer care for them. I had also always had a love for the medical field and grew up watching numerous medical shows. So at age 11 I decided, what better career to have than one that would allow me to work in the medical field but also be surrounded by and be able to help the animals who cannot advocate for themselves. While I was born in Colorado, I lived majority of my life in Southern California, and following high school I attended UC Davis where I obtained by Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. I took a couple years off after this, prior to applying for veterinary school. During this time I worked as a tech assistant at a small animal practice where I was trained as a surgical assistant. This is where I developed my love for surgery and decided I wanted to pursue a career as a small animal surgeon. I am currently in the process of working toward fulfilling this dream of becoming a surgeon. I am currently finishing up a small animal rotating internship and am headed to my surgical internship next. While majority of my life as of recent has been dedicated toward achieving this career, I do try to take some time away for myself every now and then. On my free time I tend to spend majority of my time exploring the outdoors, whether it be hiking, camping or just going for a drive. When I am not doing any of these I can usually be found exploring local breweries or just lounging at home with my boxer dog, Harley, and my cat, Stormy
