About Vet: Dr. Alejandro Martinez received his B.S. in Animal Bioscience with a minor in wildlife sciences, from Penn State University in 2007. He graduated with honors from St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine obtaining his DVM in 2011. While at St. George’s University, Dr. Martinez had in depth studies on Wildlife and exotic animal medicine. He pursued his clinical year training at The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in Philadelphia from 2010 to 2011. As part of his clinal year training he had rotations at the Philadelphia Zoo, UPenn Exotics Companion Animal Medicine Service, Cornell’s Center for Wildlife Health and Exotic Pets Service, and Tuffs Wildlife Clinic. Following graduation from Veterinary School, Dr. Martinez completed a rotating internship in general medicine and surgery at the Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialist in New York City. After his internship, Dr. Martinez moved back to the Philadelphia area to practice emergency medicine; he was also active volunteering for the Humane Society of Berks County. Since 2013, Dr. Martinez has worked at VCA Metzger Animal Hospital practicing Small animal Emergency medicine and general practice. His medical interest includes emergency and critical care medicine, internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, exotic animal medicine, and wildlife medicine/rehabilitation. Dr. Martinez resides in the State College area with his son Matthew, his yellow lab Storm and poodle Chewy. Dr. Martinez volunteers some of is time off at The Centre Wildlife Care in Port Matilda. His outside interests includes bird watching, hiking, and traveling.

Dr. Martinez video chatted with me after hours and was very patient with me. I was very upset, and the Dr. Gave my baby and me his full attention. My baby ended up passing away due to being rejected by her parents, so I hand fed her and her sister. The younger fledgling aspirated and had an infection. I highly recommend Dr. Martinez and Vetster!

Thank you for putting my mind at ease with our new baby budgie. Dr. Martinez gave me a treatment plan and things to watch as I was concerned about our baby budgie Brussel Sprout’s weight being low. We will follow up with our regular vet in a week, if she loses weight.

Even though my frog’s injury wasn’t the easiest to see or diagnose, Dr. Martinez walked me through a virtual exam, came up with a treatment plan, then brainstormed different ways to keep him as calm and comfortable as possible while he heals.
