About Vet

Hello Pet Parents,

I look forward to the opportunity to get to meet all of you and your beloved furry, and perhaps feathered or scaly, family members.

I did my training as a veterinarian in Melbourne, Australia. Prior to this I pursued my bachelors of science in evolutionary biology, conservation and ecology. Through my education I gained of course the skills and knowledge base to function as a competent veterinarian but more importantly it fostered a strong sense of curiosity regarding medicine and nature. Additionally, my education brought me into contact with numerous mentors that helped shape the diligence and discipline I look to provide to all of those I provide my services to.

Since completing my training as a veterinarian, I pursued a surgical internship with extensive emergency training, in British Columbia, Canada having finished in 2024. All the while I have been working as a general practitioner in the Lower mainland of BC. Currently, I am also awaiting a hopeful publication on a fascinating surgical oncology case report.

I primarily work with dogs and cats however I will always do my best to help any animal in need. I am not the greatest exotics veterinarian but in an industry where it can be difficult for exotics owners to find veterinarians to help provide care and education to owners I look to help in whatever ways possible. I do not work with horses but I have a deep affection for these magnificent animals. My passions with my work include surgery, anesthesia, cardiology and radiology but I will certainly attempt to provide the best care possible to my patients for anything they are presented for.

I currently have two beautiful yet trouble making cats named Persephone and Richard

Outside of work I love to exercise and spend a lot of time in the gym, running and hiking. My passion for animals extends into my love of nature and as such I am an avid outdoorsman spending as much of my free time as I can out in the mountains, forests and rivers camping, hunting and fishing.

I look forward to helping you all in whatever way possible.

Dr. Martin Duckhorn was really informative on our bearded dragon and had a ton of info to share, he was very thorough with his questions and answered the many questions we had for our beardy. We really appreciated how knowledgeable this doctor was and this is an amazing resource for pet owners.

I’m so grateful to Dr.Martin! Really listened to my concerns and let me explain what I was probably overthinking about so much didn’t turn out to be something too serious. I never dealt with reptile and amphibian veterinarians before until one specific clinic in my province did veterinary malpractice to my gecko in March of 2022 who ended up dying after the treatment and didn’t allow me to go in the examination room to see what they did so that made me avoidant and resentful of seeking any veterinary help for exotics in Montreal, and I had been sent to that clinic again this year for my frog since I called a lot of clinics last week but they didn’t take frogs!!! Dr.Martin was absolutely understanding and chill and gave me hope which I had lost already. Many thanks to him even despite making it very clear that he didn’t have a specialty in amphibians, I did read his profile beforehand and still wanted to consult with him because he still wanted to help as much as he could :)

Dr. Martin was exceptionally helpful, kind and knowledgeable. I feel very confident in how to take the next steps with my sweet chicken to help her and the rest of my flock.
