About Vet

Please note: I specialize in poultry medicine (chickens, turkeys) and do not offer consultation for other avian species (e.g., parrots, waterfowl).

Hello! I'm Dr. Gigi Lin, a board-certified poultry veterinarian with over 8 years of experience in both commercial poultry practice and backyard/pet chicken medicine.

I earned my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Saskatchewan in 2017 and achieved board certification through the American College of Poultry Veterinarians in 2023. I’ve had the privilege of helping flock owners across Western Canada through telemedicine—something that remains rare in the veterinary world, especially when it comes to poultry.

I’m passionate about all things chickens and turkeys. One of my favourite aspects of this career is education, whether it's teaching producers or empowering individual bird owners. I’ve presented at over 100 industry workshops, courses, conferences, and scientific meetings, and I bring the same level of clarity and care to every consultation.

Through Vetster, I’m excited to work with you to support the health and welfare of your flock—big or small. From daily husbandry to more complex health challenges, I am here to offer expert advice and support.

Topics I can help with include:

  • Health and disease concerns
  • Brooding care for chicks and poults
  • Nutrition and feeding practices
  • Backyard flock management and enrichment
  • Welfare consultation
  • Biosecurity, vaccination, and disease surveillance planning.
  • Egg laying and reproductive health
  • Interpretation of laboratory and pathology report
  • Wound management and care
  • Parasite control and treatment
  • End-of-life decisions and humane euthanasia guidance
  • Import and export consultations for chickens and turkeys

Group consultations & online workshops are welcome! Feel free to bring along your poultry-loving friends to join the appointment

To streamline out appointment and make the best use of our 30 minutes, please upload your flock's medical records to the Vetster platform, if possible. If you are unable to do so, providing a brief summary of relevant or recent history is greatly appreciated. Since video quality can sometimes limit what I can see clearly, please also take and upload clear photos of anything important or concerning. This will help ensure a more efficient and thorough consultation.

Some information that would be helpful to be included in your intake form:

  • Describe the clinical signs, onset, and number of birds involved.
  • Provide a list of feed and treats you provide.
  • Provide a brief summary on the housing condition: indoor (coop, cage), free range, in a house, or able to leave the property.
  • List any medications used.
  • List any vaccination and deworming record
  • Types of birds: chicks, poults, pullets, roosters, layer chickens, breeders.

Dr. Lin is very accommodating, thorough, and compassionate in her evaluation. She offers practical solutions and clearly explains her rationale regarding the course of action. She takes into account the welfare of the pet above everything else.
