Dr. Ann Marie Rix

Dr. Ann Marie Rix is a Calgary native who is passionate about providing accessible, compassionate veterinary care to pets and their families. She is particularly excited to connect with patients and clients through video link, offering convenient veterinary guidance and support for pets at home.

Dr. Rix obtained her Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Calgary before heading to Saskatoon to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Saskatchewan. While completing her veterinary degree, she also pursued additional studies in aquatic animal medicine through Cornell University.

Following graduation, Dr. Rix moved to the United Kingdom, where she spent two years working in a private mixed-animal practice. She then spent an additional year working as a locum veterinarian throughout Britain, gaining valuable experience working with a wide variety of patients, practices, and veterinary teams.

In 2006, Dr. Rix returned to her hometown of Calgary and has been practicing there ever since. Over the years, she has helped develop and expand her hospital's exotic animal services, reflecting her love of working with a diverse range of species. She particularly enjoys the challenge of caring for animals that require a little extra creativity and a different approach to veterinary medicine.

Dr. Rix looks forward to bringing her years of clinical experience to pet owners and help answer questions about their animals' health, behaviour, nutrition, and ongoing care. She believes that good veterinary care begins with observing the pet and listening to the person who knows them best.

And, of course, if Dr. Rix had an animal alter-ego, it would be a guinea pig. Guinea pigs are gentle, inquisitive, and enthusiastic about almost everything—especially chewing on freshly cut grass!
