About Vet

Hi! I’m Dr. Julia Hughes. I’m a veterinarian who’s passionate about helping furry friends stay happy, healthy, and right where they belong—by your side.

After graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Canada, I completed a Clinical Skills internship to sharpen my hands-on expertise. Since then, I’ve worked in private practice and shelter medicine, giving me a well-rounded perspective on pet care.

What really drives me is helping you feel confident and supported in caring for your pet. I believe veterinary care should be accessible and stress-free, which is why I focus on preventative health, incremental care, and telemedicine to reduce barriers and make expert advice more reachable.

I’m also a big believer in quality of life—helping furry friends not just live, but thrive. This applies to furry friends both awaiting their forever homes in shelter environments and rescue groups, as well as furry family members already established in loving homes. Whether you’re dealing with a new health concern, need ongoing support, or just have questions, I’m here to listen, guide, and support.

It would be an honour to be a part of your furry friend’s care team!

Being a senior it was wonderful to have an on line appointment to cover my new cat’s wellness check. With all the heavy snow lately it is much harder for me to get out so the online appointment with recommendations worked extremely well for me. Dr Julia was able to answer all my questions. I would definitely use Vetster again.

My cat had dental surgery and had their teeth removed. Dr. Julia walked me through the options for providing different foods and treats and ways to promote drinking water. I was worried that my cat would need a special diet but I was reassured that she can eat kibble after the gums heal and to keep an eye on weight. Dr Julia showed me how to get good weights and asked that I separate my cat from the others at feeding times. Dr Julia was very knowledgeable and very kind. I will be booking with her again. Much more affordable than a full vet visit, and no need to travel with my cat.

We recently adopted a cat from Egypt, who is a very sweet soul. However, she is afraid of riding in the car! We were so thankful to find this service, to avoid giving her extra stress. Since we got her, Opal has been experiencing very runny, dirty eyes, and we were concerned it could be serious. Dr. Hughes was amazingly knowledgeable, patient, and compassionate. We felt like she listened to all of our questions and concerns and thoroughly answered them. She was able to look at Opal‘s eyes via photos and video and, it was very easy to upload Opal‘s vaccine certificate as well. Dr. Hughes was very forthcoming about what she thought might be going on, and why she was ruling certain things in and out. We left with a clear plan, and are really looking forward to the follow-up!
