Dr. Heather Gunn Mcquillan

Dr. Heather Gunn McQuillan served as the Assistant Dean of Clinical and Professional Programming and the Hospital Director at the Atlantic Veterinary College for nearly a decade, where she ran the clinical teaching program in the teaching hospital and the professional foundations program for pre-clinical veterinary students.

With nearly twenty years of practical experience in a diverse range of settings including companion animal medicine and surgery, large animal medicine, emergency medicine, shelter medicine, and research/teaching in both academia and industry, Heather has brought this experience teaching students and serving clients.

She is also passionate about veterinary wellbeing and has numerous certifications in wellness including a graduate certificate in Mindfulness Based Teaching and Learning from the University of the Fraser Valley and the MBSR facilitator certification from the Centre for Mindfulness Studies. She is a registered and active yoga and mindfulness teacher and owns a nature-based wellness resort in PEI (www.naturespaceresort.com). She is highly certified in leadership, conflict management and conflict resolution including interest-based mediation and collaborative-based problem solving.

She loves outreach medicine and has worked in Canada's Arctic working with indigenous communities to provide accessible care through spay/neuter and preventative care clinics, and she continues to provide locum veterinary care both in-person and on-line. She also continues to consult for other practices and for veterinary groups in wellbeing, leadership and business.
