Dr. Aida Ferreira

I’m Aida, a veterinary surgeon with a passion for animal welfare, medicine, and making a difference—one paw at a time! My journey began as a kid in Portugal when my own dog’s diabetes diagnosis sparked a dream to become a vet. That dream took me to Porto University’s ICBAS, where I graduated in 2014, and later to internships across the globe—from the high-energy wards of the University of Tennessee to emergency nights at Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists in the UK.

Along the way, I fell in love with research, too. My work on immune-mediated diseases in cats and dogs has been published and presented internationally, but I’m just as happy mentoring new grads or chatting with pet owners through platforms like Barkyn. I’m currently wrapping up a PgCert in Internal Medicine (with imaging next on my list!), because curiosity never sleeps—and neither do my three rescue cats, who’ve perfected the art of interrupting my Zoom calls.

When I’m not in scrubs, you’ll find me with a camera in hand (travel photography is my therapy), a book in my bag (fiction, please—no medical journals after hours!), or planning my next adventure. I speak English, Portuguese, and enough Spanish to order coffee in three countries—but my favorite language is the universal one of wagging tails and purrs.

At heart, I’m still that kid who wanted to help animals. Only now, I’ve got the stethoscope, the stamps in my passport, and the caffeine addiction to prove it!
