Please call me “Jan”. As a rural small animal veterinarian I share the worries of people who want to do the best they can for their pet but have trouble figuring out the best choices. I like people and animals and these discussions can take time. Euthanasia should be done only when it is a gift to the pet so there are no regrets. The Veterinarian’s Oath: “Above All Do No Harm” has led me to assess diagnostic, medical, and surgical approaches with the scientific demands of evidence for each individual patient. I can then offer alternative and complimentary techniques so they can live a tail wagging and dignified life. I am certified as a veterinarian in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Ontario. With post-graduate study I am an AVCA Certified Veterinary Chiropractor since 1997, a graduate of Spring Forest Qi Gong, Minneapolis, and Master Reiki, Thunder Bay. So I have many more tools than I had as a graduate in the top quarter of my class at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. For these 33 years I have been self-employed with house calls, clinic, and now telemedicine. My favorite clients are those who say”I have tried everything” . Now I know there are many more techniques to try. Obviously I love to learn. My present reading is The Genius of Birds and The Secret Life of Trees. I am very concerned about our destructions of all natural habitats and the risks that brings for extinction of species, including our own.Even small shrubs and trees can bring down our carbon numbers. After COVID-19, climate change will bring us tick diseases and other southern pathogens. Science teaches us important lessons. We all have so much to learn from the resilience of Nature.
