About Vet

Hi! I'm Katie, a small animal vet based in my lovely home of Devon.

I trained at the Royal Veterinary College then moved straight back home to start working in small animal practice. There I discovered my love of helping people as well as their animals, and a particular interest in medicine. I am now very close to qualifying as an Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine.

My main interests are:

  • Exotics - small furries, rats in particular
  • Endocrine disease management - particularly Diabetes Mellitus
  • Neurological disease
  • Geriatric care

But I am confident and competent in all areas from identifying possible emergencies to settling in your new puppy or kitten.

I am kind, patient and non-judgmental. No question is a stupid question and I'm looking forward to providing reassurance, compassion and advice for you and your companion.

Please be aware that due to strict regulations set by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, I cannot legally provide prescriptions for POM-V medications. I can however advise on appropriate over the counter medications, or advise when seeking a consultation in person is appropriate.

Katie is a font of knowledge when it comes to rats and since she has now moved away from my area I was chuffed to be able to contact her via vetster and get such a quick appointment.

I was so upset and worried about my hamster at the start of the call and Dr. Katie was so kind and understanding. She was able to check him by telling me what to feel for and look for on him which is so much easier and less stressful than having to take him to an in person vet and have a stranger manhandle him. She was very clear and thorough in explaining what she thought the problem might be, how to treat it and even recommended a vet near me in London (even though she is based in Devon) who could look at him if his condition worsened. I have gone from being beside myself with worry about my little hamster to feeling confident I can treat him based on her advice. I can never thank her enough.

Dr Dunn was very helpful in running through some possible causes for our rat's symptoms, and helping us to put together a plan of action. She was friendly yet professional, and knowledgeable, and evidently has a love of rats!

What a fantastic and reassuring consultant with a incredibly knowledgable and caring vet. It is hard to find a vet with knowledge and such familiarity with rats. We needed our pet rat to be seen by a vet quickly and Dr Dunn went above and beyond to make it possible to be seen for a consultation. She was able to reassure us that our rat was doing ok despite of her medical condition. I just wish Dr Dunn was a vet near me so I could be seen by her in person. Thank you so much for all your help with our rat. ☺️

Dr. Dunn's attention to detail is invaluable, and her care for the animals she treats is remarkable. She talked me through all potential options regarding my pet, answered all of my questions clearly, and is clearly very knowledgeable about small pets, particularly rats. It's amazing what she was able to see and take in over the video call when looking at my rat, and I felt totally listened to and not rushed at all. Feeling really optimistic and reassured after our appointment now I'm equipped with more knowledge and a clear plan for my pet. She is also really friendly, warm, and easy to chat to! Thank you Dr. Dunn!

Katie was very thorough and reassuring throughout my appointment with one of my rats. She was able to advise which medications would be appropriate, and gave me doses to start with meds I had at home. She also recommended another medication which I can discuss with my local vets. As my local vets aren't particularly rat savvy, it's helpful being able to talk through health issues on a virtual platform with a vet who has an interest in rat medicine. Can't recommend Katie enough.

A fantastic appointment, Dr Katie went over all of my concerns and addressed the questions I had about my cat's medication for his diabetes as well as answering other general health queries and the next appropriate steps.
