What is a marketplace? - Vetster

Thousands of veterinarians use Vetster as their platform of choice for practicing virtually. For some, Vetster has become a primary source of income, for others it supplements in-clinic or locum work. Vetster is the only global veterinary marketplace available that empowers veterinarians to build their virtual practice with a pay-as-you-go fee structure.  But let’s unpack that a little. What does it mean to be part of a marketplace?

Marketplaces are digital destinations where consumers can view a wide variety of offerings to make a selection based on their needs. For consumer goods you can think of Amazon or Etsy, in the vacation space Airbnb and VRBO are well known. Vetster is the only veterinary telehealth marketplace in the world. We chose this approach for a few reasons:

  • We want veterinary professionals to practice as much or as little as they’d like, helping to improve access to care outside of traditional clinic hours.
  • We want veterinarians to pay only for their utilization of the platform and the appointments they provide, generating a new income stream for themselves.
  • We want the veterinary industry to be in the driver’s seat of the virtual care revolution. We believe it’s important for veterinarians not just to participate, but to shape how virtual care is practiced.
  • We want veterinarians to build and maintain their relationships with their clients.
  • We believe veterinarians are qualified to make decisions on how they provide virtual care and should be trusted to assess the animal and their medical needs.
  • We are great at building technology and helping to disrupt industries, and we want to work with veterinarians who practice great medicine to improve access to care for pets around the world.

“I started practicing telemedicine with Vetster to make veterinary care more accessible and convenient for my clients. I believe virtual care will help the veterinary community meet the needs of the growing number of pet owners while ensuring clinics are used for the most-needed cases and hands-on pet treatments.” - Dr. Rachel Lord, Vetster veterinarian in the UK.

Getting the most out of your experience on the Vetster marketplace starts with setting up a great profile. Our marketplace exists to give pet owners and veterinarians a place to establish connections and build relationships, so we want to set you up for success by providing you with the tools you need.
