Pet care tips - Vetster

As a pet parent, it’s always a top priority to provide the best care for your furry friend. Here are some general pet wellness tips to ensure your pet remains happy and healthy!

Veterinary Visits

Pet owner responsibilities begin with regular visits (and online visits) to the veterinarian. Your pets should receive a general checkup at least once or twice a year - and though that may be more often than humans, consider they have a shorter lifespan! When pets are young, depending on your pet’s vaccination schedule, you may have to visit the vet in-person more frequently.

Identification

Every pet owner’s worst nightmare is losing their pet. So, it is important to properly equip your pet with a safe collar and identification tags that contain your contact information and address should they ever go missing.

Nutrition

There is an abundance of meal options you have access to as a pet owner, but knowing what’s the best for your pet can be a real challenge. Ensure your pet’s food has a healthy balance of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats, which provide the most energy and nutrients to your pet.

Home Care and Training

Establishing a regular routine consisting of exercise, training, and hygiene health is very important for your pet’s overall wellness. Ensure you groom your pets often with a proper cat or dog grooming brush (brushes vary depending on the type of fur or coat your pet has), and even brush their teeth if needed.

Generally, pets should have their nails trimmed every 3-4 weeks. If you are not comfortable trimming nails on your own, visit a veterinarian to help you. If possible, it’s important to house-train your pets when they are young. Properly socializing, house training, litter-box training, and leash-training your pets in the first 6-12 months of their lives is crucial in helping them develop as gentle, friendly, and well-trained companions.
