About Vet

Unfortunately, due to California laws, I am UNABLE TO PRESCRIBE medications at this time for pets that I have not examined in person within the last 12 months. There may be possible over-the-counter solutions that may help your pet that I could recommend.

Although I can't prescribe, I feel that I can still help you with your pet by talking with you and by offering professional advice, answering your questions about your pets' health care and by helping you triage medical situations. I believe in preventive care and education to help pets live a longer and healthier life.

Hi! My name is Dr. Kristin J McIntyre and I have over 25 years of experience as a doctor of veterinary medicine! I enjoy keeping up to date on the most current topics in veterinary medical practices to provide the best care possible for pets. My goal is to be able to provide advice to you on the urgency of medical situations and to offer information about various medical, surgical or health concerns, to help you have a more active role in medical decisions for your pet.

My interest in pet care began long before I earned my vet degree. As a kid, I was always caring for my pets and the pets in the neighborhood from dogs, cats, rabbits, rats and more. I was drawn to many different avenues of pet care prior to vet school which helped me gain more experience in the veterinary field, such as, being a dog bather, pet sitter, pet store maintenance, small animal vet tech, zoo keeper assistant, zoo vet tech, and more.

I obtained my BS in Animal Science with a Pre-vet option and a Minor in Chemistry at CSU Fresno in CA. I graduated with honors with my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine, AL in 1998. Also, during vet school breaks, I gained more experience by completing a small animal / exotic animal externship program at a veterinary hospital in NC, and also by working as a vet tech in AL and CA. After receiving my veterinary degree, I moved back to CA where I'm licensed to practice veterinary medicine and I primarily treat dogs and cats. Also over the years I have acquired a lot of exotic animal experience. Initially I worked for a handful of small animal practices but early on in my career I opened my own small animal & exotic pet veterinary hospital. As a solo vet practice owner I did it all! I saw all the patients, did all the surgeries and managed the practice! I've had experiences with cases that involved derm, oncology, cardiac, endocrine, toxicology, digestive, dental, preventative medicine, soft tissue surgery and a whole lot more! In my last 25 years of being a vet and still at this time, I have gained knowledge from experiences with many types of veterinary medical, surgical and pet health care issues. My experience will help me in answering your questions during our time when you schedule a consult online with me. After 16 successful years of vet practice ownership I decided to go another direction in my vet medicine career. I am still enjoying seeing patients and doing surgery by filling in for other vets so they can get a well deserved break and I also enjoy helping people with their pets online through the Vetster site. I feel that this is a good way to help people with questions on their pets' needs if they can't get in to a vet right away or if they just need some information.

As a practicing veterinarian for dogs, cats, and exotic pets, my interests are preventative care, internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, dermatology, dental health, behavior, nutrition, exotic pet husbandry, puppy/kitten/senior pet care, hospice, quality of life and end of life decisions, and more.

In the past, I spent some of my free time volunteering and teaching school kids about veterinary medicine, pet health care and safety around pets. I also volunteered regularly for about 5 years as a 'community correspondent' for one of the local t.v. morning news shows where I discussed current pet health care topics for the community.
Today, I enjoy kayaking, fishing and walking my rescue dog, Marty, in my free time.

I look forward to talking with you!
