About Vet

Dr. Daniela Castillo, a passionate veterinarian from Oaxaca, Mexico, has dedicated her life to animal rights, wildlife conservation, and environmental advocacy. From a young age, her commitment to animals was evident, leading her to adopt a pesco-vegetarian lifestyle at 15, vowing to protect her future patients.

As valedictorian of her class, Daniela earned her Veterinary Medicine degree from Universidad Veracruzana, where she initially focused on zoo medicine. However, after witnessing the harsh realities faced by zoo animals during a one-year internship, she shifted her focus and pursued further studies in environmental science.

Awarded a full scholarship by the Mexican government, Daniela pursued a Master’s degree in Wildlife Conservation at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. During this time, her passion for wildlife deepened, and she adopted a vegan lifestyle, driven by ethical and environmental concerns.

In 2011, Daniela volunteered at St. Francis Wildlife Association in Florida, quickly rising to become the Director and a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. Realizing that her impact could be greater in the U.S., she pursued veterinary licensure, achieving her dream in California in April 2016.

With a diverse background in emergency care, general practice, and shelter medicine, Daniela found her true calling in High-Quality High-Volume Spay and Neuter (HQHVSN) surgeries. She has since worked closely with non-profit organizations and farm animal sanctuaries, addressing overpopulation and improving animal welfare.

Recently, Dr. Castillo launched a Veterinary Surgery Truck service, a mobile unit dedicated to providing spay, neuter, and soft tissue surgeries for shelter animals, rescued animals, farm sanctuary residents, and wildlife. This innovative service reflects her unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of animals through her expertise and compassionate care.

Fluent in both Spanish and English, Dr. Castillo is a tireless advocate for animal rights, continuously working to place veterinarians at the forefront of defending the fundamental rights of all living beings.

Please note that due to California law, I am unable to provide a diagnosis or prescribe medications via a telemedicine appointment. However, I can make suggestions for at home and over the counter solutions to make your companion animal more comfortable and I can help guide you in developing questions and a plan of action for any upcoming in-person veterinary appointments.
